There has been significant investment in school renovations and innovations since a new scheme called the PM SHRI Scheme was launched. We call this scheme the Green School initiative. All local schools will benefit from this program. More than 18 lakh students are expected to benefit directly from this programme. In a period of five years Rs. The Union Cabinet has authorized the PM-SHRI project to upgrade 14,500 schools at a cost of Rs 27,360 crore. The administrative framework already in place for comprehensive punishment, KVS and NVS will be used for implementation of PM SHRI schools. According to the ministry’s statement, “Other autonomous bodies will be engaged on a project-specific basis as required.” These schools are models for others to follow because of their state-of-the-art facilities, teaching strategies and technological advancements.

OBJECTIVES OF PM SHRI SCHOOLS

The main objective of the PM Shri scheme is to bring the existing schools in the country to the top by providing the right support so that they can compete with the international standard of education around the world. The plan not only helps with finances and basic education, but also emphasizes forward-thinking aspects like creating an environment-friendly environment in educational institutions. The emphasis is not only on the instruction to be delivered but also on the outcomes for students in each grade.

Benefits and Features of PM SHRI Schools

The PM-SHRI project has a five-year duration of Rs. 27,360 crore to upgrade 14,500 schools. PM SHRI schools mentor other regional schools.

ICT (Information and Communications Technology), smart classrooms, digital libraries, scientific laboratories and vocational labs will all be set up in schools participating in the PM SHRI Yojana programme.

Schools will be developed as eco-schools, with solar panels and LED lights, nutritional gardens with organic farming, waste management, plastic free, water conservation and harvesting. Further study on environmental practices, climate change-related workshops and effective knowledge management to adopt a healthy approach are all covered under this scheme. The teaching of these schools is experiential, holistic, comprehensive, play/toy-based, inquiry-based, discovery-based, learner-centered, discussion-based, adaptive and joyful.

Each grade focuses on learning outcomes. All assessments are competency-based and focus on conceptual understanding and real-life application. Existing resources and their adequacy are assessed for each area and its key performance metrics, and deficiencies are addressed in a methodical and planned manner. Under this scheme, entrepreneurship opportunities especially with local industry, Linking with sector skill councils and local industries will improve job opportunities and job alternatives.
