The Delhi Police has shared a list of loan scam apps after its Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO), a special unit, busted an extortion racket involved in providing user databases to servers in China and Hong Kong. According to the Delhi Police, the IFSO conducted an extensive technical analysis which helped them crack the case of Chinese applications involved in the loan and extortion racket. It was found that all the apps sought malicious permissions from the user and after getting the access permissions, the user’s contacts, chats, messages and pictures were uploaded to servers in China and Hong Kong.

Money route analysis revealed that money is being transferred to China through hawala and cryptocurrencies. Further, more than 100 of these apps are being hosted from AWS servers and Ali Baba servers, which are hosted in India but are not compatible with American companies, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) KPS Malhotra informed.
